Preparing for Your Massage Mentally and Physically

Your state of mind and preparation for your massage can be almost as important as the clinical skills of your massage therapist. Clients who are prepared mentally and physically are able to achieve a state of relaxation above those who are not prepared. Since we want your experience with Calming Touch Massage to be unforgettable, we decided it would be a good idea to provide some tips to maximize the relaxation and benefit that you receive from your massage.

Preparing Mentally for Your Massage

Many clients do not understand the factor that their mind plays in being able to reach optimal relaxation. Calming your mind and getting into a relaxed state prior to your massage is something that we highly recommend. While we know that life is busy, and this may not always be possible, here are some things that will help you be mentally prepared for your massage:

Get to know your massage therapist –

While this may seem simple, getting to know your massage therapist and being confident in their skills can be pivotal in achieving optimal relaxation. When you trust your massage therapist and are confident that they are going to provide you with an awesome massage, that is just one less thing to be stressed about.

Meditate –

Meditation is one of the quickest ways to relax your mind. Sit somewhere quiet, slow your breathing and concentrate on your breath. Developing a slow cadence to your breathing is a great form of relaxation, so as you are meditating, try counting as you breathe. Breathe in counting: one, one thousand, two, one thousand, three, one thousand. Then breathe out doing the same. You will find that if you do this for a few minutes, your mind will start to relax. Preparing Physically for Your Massage

Now that you have a few tips on how to prepare for you massage mentally, here are some tips on how to prepare for your massage physically:

Stay Hydrated –

Because massage is manipulating your muscles, you may feel sore after your massage. This comes from breaking down muscles and scar tissue, and also because toxins are being pushed out of your muscles. Staying hydrated will help you be less sore, and at the same time, will help your body get rid of the toxins that have been pushed out of the muscles.
